102 feet long 95 ton Solar powered electric boat travelling around the world. Follow the voyage on www.planetsolar.org and www.planetsea.com
Upgrade to the solar shed, have just fitted a huge 220AH deep cycle battery weighing almost 60KG. This gives us a total of 290AH capacity between the two deep cycle batteries, or around 150AH of usable capacity only draining the battery bank down to 40-50%. All major wiring is 8-AWG, including the battery links. The system is setup in parallel giving 12v@290AH.

Monkey Business

Getting kids in school to clean their hands often can be tough, even in a junior high school. I purchased this soap dispenser from Bed Bath & Beyond with a solar-powered bobble-head monkey and filled it with great smelling hand sanitizer (coconut papaya) to sit on top of the circulation desk right beside our newest library books. It was an instant hit!
Hand sanitizer is being used a whole lot more, and it has the added benefit of drawing students to the library. Students, when stopping in to see the monkey, catch their eyes on recent acquisitions and almost always stop to look at and take out books.
The shameless use of novelties to get students into the library, cleaning their hands, and taking out books is certainly not beneath me! 
Grave of Ruby Hubbard

Ruby L. Hubbard, a longtime Buffalo resident who was active in her community and church, died last Thursday in Cincinnati, where she moved in 2004. She was 84.
Mrs. Hubbard was born in Florence, S.C., and graduated from Roosevelt High School, where she won a scholarship to attend Orangeburg (S.C.) College. She later attended Virginia Union College, where she met her future husband, Melkaiah A. The two were married in 1944 and moved to Buffalo in 1947. Her husband died in 2001.
Mrs. Hubbard worked as a sales supervisor for Hens & Kelly department store for 17 years until 1981.
She also served as president of the New Hope Baptist Church Social Committee, was a member of the Hamlin Park Taxpayers Association, president of the Eastwood Block Club and a community liaison for Canisius College.
Family members said Mrs. Hubbard, who visited the sick and shut- in, was also known as the "candy lady" at her church to both children and adults.
She is survived by a son, Gregory L. of Cincinnati; a brother, Leslie Davis of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Eve Newsome of Bear, Del.; and two grandchildren.

Solar powered lights at graves seems to be a new trend at some of the cemeteries

Solar-powered grave lights were the source of controversy recently, as Cheshire officials informed bereaved parents that they would not be permitted to memorialize their son in this way. Jean and Peter Robinson wanted to install two lights on their son Sean's grave. The 10-year-old boy had died from what was described as a "brain disorder." Shortly before his death, he asked his parents "not to leave him in the dark."
Council officials indicated that having the graveyard illuminated at night may attract vandals and encourage other forms of antisocial behavior.
In 2005, officials in Flintshire, England, announced that excessive grave decorations would be removed from a local cemetery. The definition of "excessive" grave decorations included grave lights, windmills, and statues. Grave owners would be permitted to erect only a tombstone and one vase at each grave site.
Council officials cited health and safety concerns for cemetery maintenance workers as the reason for this course of action. Keeping the grounds well-manicured is much more difficult when extra items are placed on the grave site.

On Sept. 25, 1941, the name was officially changed to Walnut Hills Cemetery. Currently, the cemetery sits on over 70 rolling acres of Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, Ohio with over 50,000 burials.
